rname — execute a program under a different name

Description | Download | Acknowledgements

rname is a simple utility that invokes a specified program, passing a different name instead of the name of the program executable. This could be useful in a number of cases — the specific need for rname arose when I was trying to figure out a way to invoke several instances of D. J. Bernstein's tcpserver and, later, be able to control (usu. kill) one or more of them by name. (Yes, I know about supervise, svc, svscan and friends, but, as usual, I tried to reinvent the wheel ;)

Downloading rname
